Over the past few years, there has been an exponential rise in online shopping, with this increase being further driven during the current Covid-19 crisis, which has contributed to online sales‘increasing from a 3.4% share of all retail sales in 2007 to 27.9% in 2020’.More importantly, while the relaxing of the Covid-19 regulations might see a slowing of this trend, as the media indicates, for many consumers online shopping has become almost second nature.
For many industries, perhaps the most important outcome of this change is the need to redirect an increasing level of their product stocks to distribution centres appropriately located within key locations throughout the UK. Consequently, there has been an increase in the demand for warehousing facilities. In an effort to cater for the developing demand, distribution and delivery organisations such as Amazon, DHL, the Post Office and other similar organisations are increasing their warehousing facilities. For example, Amazon has recently moved its UK distribution into a large warehouse in Rochdale.
However, unless these warehouses have in place the requisite human resources they cannot be expected to operate efficiently. For example, among other employees they will need packers, stackers, fork lift drivers, inventory checkers, administration staff and managers. Filling these roles effectively is particularly important given the increasing consumer demand for next day or short delivery timescales, which requires the efficient management and application of a JIT (Just in time) system.
Teamwork Partnership has over two decades of experience in providing warehouse employees for our clients across a wide range of distribution and packaging organisations and in ensuring a perfect fit between the candidate and the employer.
